Hawks 17u (2017 PG) Christian Popoola, JR earns International MVP honors in Global Challenge

Colorado Hawks 17u PG Christian Popoola, JR (6’4″ PG 2017) was selected as one of five Nigerian to represent Team Pan Africa at the Global Challenge held in Chicago, IL.   Christian has exceeded expectations on his way to scoring 23 points (8-16 shooting), 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in 29 minutes of action against USA East. He was not done as he followed up that effort with 25 points (8-19 shooting), going 60% from the free throw line, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in 30 minutes of play.

This effort helped him be selected as Pan African International MVP.

Here is how Christian’s style of play was described: “Christian Popoola is another Nigerian on the African team at the Nike Global Challenge. The 6’4 point guard loves to draw contacts as he drives through lanes to score baskets. The 185-pound guard for BYU basketball’s Class of 2017 began his prep career at Bishop Gorman (NV), where he helped the Gaels to a Division 1 state championship in his first year. His transfer to Lone Peak High School, Highland, Utah saw him averaging 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.”
