HAWKS 15’s Blue Win MAYB at Overland HS in Denver!

From Coach Jackson:

“The Colorado Hawks Blue 15’s represented the Hawks organization well during the Denver III, tournament held at Overland High School June 22-24, 2007. The team went undefeated in pool play on its way to the championship game.

In pool play, the toughest challenge came from a very good and athletic Fountain Fort Carson (FFC-Kings) 16’s team from Colorado Springs, (which I am told will be the varsity team for Fountain Fort Carson) next season.

The game was tight early on, then the Hawks Blue went ahead by as many as 15 points on the strong play of Zachary Jackson with 19 points. The lightning quick duo of Shane Oliver and Philip Hill combined for 18 points, 3 steals, 5 assists and 8 rebounds. Strong in the paint was Michael Craig and Marlin Johnson with 17 points, 4 steals and 10 rebounds respectively. Also contributing to the victory was Ben Foley, Kyle Caruthers, Deontae Fair, and Jamel Compton. The FFC-Kings made a late run, but it was not enough to overcome the Hawks Blue lead.”

The Hawks Blue will take a large step up and play in the 11th/12th grade division in a few weeks. Coach Jackson says “Our system is complicated and the kids are just now feeling comfortable and playing as one and I want to challenge them to see how well they can do at the next level. I want my kids to understand that whether we win or lose, we will not shy away from any challenge. Playing much older kids will help us prepare for playing in the Main Event Tournament in Las Vegas next month.”
