Proclamation No. 13, Series of 2007

Congratulating the East High School Boys Basketball team on the 5A State Championship

WHEREAS, on March 11, 2007, Denver’s East High School Boys Basketball team, brought home the Colorado State 5A Basketball Tournament championship; and

WHEREAS, the East Angels defeated the previously undefeated Aurora Central Trojans 60 to 41 in the final tournament game, after finishing the regular season at 24 and 3; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Rudy Carey has now won 7 State Basketball Championship titles during his coaching career, which he modestly attributes to great staff people and great players through the years; and

WHEREAS, Angels team captain Donell Wells was the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post choice for the tournament’s most valuable player; and

WHEREAS, East teammates Mookey Gilbert, junior; Jordan Martinez-Doublin, senior; and Donell Wells, senior, were named to the Class 5A All-Tournament team; and

WHEREAS, the members of the 2007 Colorado State 5A Basketball Championship Team are:

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER:

Section 1. That the Council hereby congratulates the East High School Boys Basketball Team, Class 5A State Champions.

Section 2. That the Clerk of the City and County of Denver shall attest and affix the seal of the City and County of Denver to this proclamation and that a copy be transmitted to Rudy Carey, Head Coach of the East High School Boys Basketball Team.
