The HAWKS 7th grade team played up in the JAM fall league and won/shared the league title (depends on final results this weekend) by going undefeated against 8th grade NCAA teams. The 7th graders started league play with little expectations for success since so many players are in football right now, but despite having no practices, they slowly gained momentum game-by-game. The last game of the season on Sunday against Thunderridge ended up being for a share of the championship and the HAWKS won in overtime.
In Coach T’s words:
“Well, the showdown was just like I thought it would be – the Hawks (7th) & Tridge. It went into overtime with my youngsters winning by 6. Daivd Arnold came on late to keep his team in it, and score often, but had no real help. Just like I stated in a earlier post (on cohoopstracker.com), no 1 man will beat 5. …….. For the Hawks, we were led by our bigs. The inside game kept Tridge to 1 and done. Our point Ray Riley did show why he is one of the best 7th graders at his position.
At 7-0 we go into the end-of-season tourney as one of the teams to beat. However, I still think Tridge may win the division. Once again, hats off to Lamont Turner, Chris Carter, and Billy Sprugan. The beasts on the boards, they just kept pounding away on the inside. The Hawks will definitely be one of the teams to beat at the Thanksgiving Tip-Off on Nov.24-28 @ Mullen!”
Congratulations to the entire team and Coach Terry for a great season in the JAM Fall league and many thanks to the parents who supported us!
In other JAM news, the HAWKS 8th grade team completed their fall season with a 4 game winning streak against 9th grade NCAA competition. On Sunday, the 8th graders defeated the 9th grade Tru Playaz team that was tied for first place. Led by Davaughn Thornton who was ably supported by starters Luis Giles, Marquis Burleson, Isiah Kampeska, and David Arnold (yes, the same David Arnold from above), the HAWKS held the Tru Playaz to 15 points in the first half to lead by 12. The Tru Playaz roared back in the second half behind the outstanding play of Mookie Gilbert (a HAWKS 9th grade standout) but could never quite close the gap as the HAWKS second squad led by Kameron Wilhite, Devon Aguilar, Noe Magdaleno, Charlie Zeller and Terrell Thompson kept the pace uptempo!
Congratulations to the players for an outstanding win in the preseason and for competing very well against the high school freshman teams.

** 7th grade JAM update **
The 7th grade HAWKS team tied with the undefeated George Washington 8th grade team for first place of the regular season. In the post season tournament, George Washington (11-0) swept through the tourney to claim the undisputed championship by beating the HAWKS (9-1) in the semis and beating Thunderridge in the finals.
